Let's Work Together

It is my belief that a child can achieve greater academic heights when the teacher and parents work together.  One way I will do my best to keep you abreast of what is going on in our classroom is through a weekly parent letter.  This will be sent home on Friday of each week. The letter will include information such as daily homework assignments, the new spelling list, project assignments or special activities, as well as our related arts schedule so your child can be sure to wear gym shoes or bring back library books.  Please find a safe and consistent place, like the refrigerator, to keep the parent letter each week.

A great way for parents to support their child's education at home is to check  his/her backpack and take-home folder every evening.  Everything I need you to see will be sent home in your child's backpack.  It is also helpful to go over the mistakes that your child makes on papers each evening.  When children know that their parents are concerned and involved with their school work, they tend to care more themselves and work harder at school.

Homework is another area where parents can be of great help. A consistent family routine, a quiet place to concentrate and a family member to monitor homework completion can make a huge difference in a student's success. By catching errors on homework at home and working with your child to help him/her understand and fix it, students are more likely to come to class ready for success.

I would appreciate any and all help that I can get from parents both in and out of the classroom.  If at any time you are interested in helping, just let me know.  I can alert you of coming days that we may need some extra help, or set up a time for you to make copies, do some cutting, put up bulletin boards, or tutor students needing extra help.

I look forward to a great year of working together to help your youngsters succeed.
