THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROGRAM (Grades K-5)
The programs offered in our school helps students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for academic achievement. As students advance through elementary school, the program emphasizes a defined core of knowledge and skills in subject area content, as well as a focus on communication, reasoning, and problem solving. A computer resource program is available to assist students with technology skills. At the beginning of each school year, parents are given Indiana Academic Standards, which is a grade-level guide that outlines curriculum objectives and expectations for their children. These guides are also available on the web at http://www.doe.state.in.us/standards/welcome.html

Pre-School
A pre-school classroom with a licensed teacher in available to special needs students and typical peers, where they are exposed to social and academic skills, as well as life skills.

Kindergarten
The half-day kindergarten operates in morning or afternoon sessions. Children must reach their fifth birthday on or before July 1st to be enrolled. The program is child-centered and activity-oriented, incorporating instructional experiences suitable for each child's maturity and readiness to learn. A full-day kindergarten is also available to eligible students.

Language Arts
The elementary language arts program includes the teaching of reading, writing, and word study. A variety of literature is used as the basis for teaching phonics, structural analysis, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

Mathematics
The elementary mathematics program provides problem-solving activities as well as computation skills. Further, the program provides repeated exposure to concepts, deepening mathematical understanding.

Science
In science, basic content is introduced in the areas of life, earth, and physical sciences. Students use science process skills of observing, asking questions, sequencing, measuring, classifying, comparing, inferring, recording information, and using materials safely in hands-on science investigations.

Social Studies
In social studies, basic concepts and skills are introduced in the areas of history, geography, civics, and economics. These strands are further developed as students learn about their local community, state, country, and the world.

Health

Accelerated and Enrichment Programs
Our school benefits from the services of an enrichment education program. Students in kindergarten and first grade receive enrichment activities through whole-class sessions and/or small-group instruction. Teachers trained in gifted strategies work with identified students in grades 3 to 5. These teachers work with the students to implement differentiated instruction.

Academic Assistance
Students needing extra help are assisted by highly trained teachers, Resource teachers and assistants, Early Steps  & Second Steps staff or through other school-based remedial instruction. Our school offers federally funded Title I programs including an ESL staff to help students who speak English as a second language.

Extracurricular Activities

Our Extracurricular activities provide a means to stimulate both social and academic growth for students. These activities are offered before, during, and after school. They include Student Council, Scouts, Sports, and Academic Teams, such as Math Bowl, Spell Bowl, and Geography Bee. We consider our extracurricular activities to be an integral part of our educational program, and encourage all students to participate.

Summer School
Summer programs offer expanded and remedial instruction in basic reading and mathematics.
