From
the Desk of the Principal… Who is Responsible? “Who
is responsible for seeing that my child gets the best education possible?” The
answer is threefold. First, parents must be responsible for the growth and
development of their child from infancy to adulthood. This includes student
attitudes and feelings toward school. If school is a priority for you, it will
be a priority for your child. Second, teachers must accept the responsibility
for the academic and social development of your child at school. They must learn
the individual strengths and weaknesses of your child and address those needs in
a timely manner. Teachers must also set an example for students that “learning
is a lifelong journey.” Third, students must take full responsibility for
their actions. They must exhibit the appropriate attitude toward learning,
complete their tasks in a timely manner, communicate effectively with their
peers, and be good problem solvers.
The
new federal No Child Left Behind legislation has created a quagmire for schools,
for students, and for parents. It takes diligence and hard work on the part of
these three groups to “meet the challenge.” I am very proud of the
accomplishments of our students, staff, and parents here at Coulston. Students
have shown a tremendous amount of academic growth over the last three years.
Your continued support of your child and the school will assist us in developing
a true “Community of Learners.”
