Miss Essex’s Class News

Math

Next, we will study Chapter 21: Patterns. The topics of describing patterns, extending pattern units, making patterns, transferring patterns, and correcting a pattern will be studied. Chapter 21 covers Indiana Academic Standard 2.3.3.

Reading

The week of May 12th we will be reading In The Dinosaur’s Paw. The vocabulary words will be Tyrannosaurus, swamp, disgraceful, powerful, and sneak. This is a literature book, not a story in the red reader. We will work on our comprehension skills as well as story elements. In language, we will study complete and incomplete sentences, capitalization, and punctuation.

Writing

We are writing our own versions of the story, One Day in the Life of Bubble Gum. We will use what we have learned from the 6+1 Writing Traits to write, organize, edit, revise, and present our stories.

Spelling

The spelling words for the week of May 12th-16th are: children, search, teacher, reached, think, together, with, where, everywhere, short, push, finish, sure, who, and whole. The final five words will be word family words of swam and came. Students earning a 100% on Wednesday do not have to take the test Friday!

Science

Next week, we will be harvesting seeds from our plants.
