Math Next,
we will study Chapter 21: Patterns. The topics of describing patterns,
extending pattern units, making patterns, transferring patterns, and
correcting a pattern will be studied. Chapter 21 covers Indiana Academic
Standard 2.3.3. Reading The
week of May 12th we will be reading In The Dinosaur’s Paw. The
vocabulary words will be Tyrannosaurus, swamp, disgraceful, powerful,
and sneak. This is a literature book, not a story in the red
reader. We will work on our comprehension skills as well as story
elements. In language, we will study complete and incomplete sentences,
capitalization, and punctuation.
Writing We
are writing our own versions of the story, One Day in the Life of
Bubble Gum. We will use what we have learned from the 6+1 Writing
Traits to write, organize, edit, revise, and present our stories. Spelling
The
spelling words for the week of May 12th-16th are: children, search,
teacher, reached, think, together, with, where, everywhere, short, push,
finish, sure, who, and whole. The final five words will be
word family words of swam and came. Students earning a 100% on Wednesday
do not have to take the test Friday! Science
Next
week, we will be harvesting seeds from our plants.

I will be making field day shirts for the students to
wear on Field Day, Friday, May 16th. The shirts are $4.00 each. If your
child wishes to purchase a shirt, please send in the $4.00, and I will
have the shirt ready the next day. I will accept money until Thursday,
May 15th. ·
Spring pictures were sent home. If you are purchasing
pictures, send back to school the money and any unwanted pictures. If
you do not wish to purchase, please send back the whole picture package.

Next week is the last week for our reading incentive
program! The reading incentive pool party at the Shelbyville Meridian
Park Family Aquatic Center is scheduled for May 19th. Permission
slips for the Pool Party are in the Friday Folder. Please sign and
return them as soon as possible. Students are doing a great job
getting their reading logs and graphic organizers completed. Keep up the
great work! ·
Each night, check and sign your child’s assignment
book and reading log. Students should be reading twenty minutes each
night as well as writing at least a one-sentence summary for their
