News from Miss Kolls

Reading – Next week we will be reading A Harbor Seal Pup Grows Up.  Our vocabulary words will be examines, hunger, mammal, normal, rescued, and young.  Please help your child learn these words.  We will have a comprehension test on Thursday.  We will also be taking a vocabulary test.  Please read the story with your child so they understand it.     

Phonics– Next week we will focus on summarizing and sequence of events.  We will also work on consonant blends: initial, medial, and final sounds.  ( Indiana Standard 2.1.1; 2.1.11)

Grammar- Next week we will be working on plural nouns and capitalization and commas.   ( Indiana Standard 2.1.5, 2.6.4, 2.6.5, 2.6.7)

Spelling – Our spelling words for next week will be:  slide, slips, dress, drop, skin, task, still, must, crisp, spell, cube, fume, below, own, city, black*, junk*, green, brothers, and that’s.  * These words have a spelling pattern we can use to spell other words.  We will take a test on Wednesday and again on Friday.  If a student receives a 100% on the test on Wednesday he/she does not have to take it on Friday. ( Indiana Standard 2.6.9)

Math – We will be working on Chapter 6 which focuses on subtraction strategies.

Thursday – Reading Log, Read To the Rescue, WS p. 54, Study Spelling, Study Morning Work

 

Star Student

Curtis Pryor was chosen as our star student this week.  He was chosen for effort.  Curtis has tried his best this week and has been very helpful.
