3S Class News

 

                                               May 12, 2008

Hello Parents! This is the last newsletter of the year.  I feel a sense of relief and a sense of sadness.  This has been a wonderful group of boys and girls, and I have enjoyed working with them.

 

Just a few notes—

Honor Roll Breakfast will be May 16th.

Field Day will be May 16th.

Last day to have 12 books for the pool party is May 16th.

The pool party will be May 19th.

Awards Day will be May 21st.

Last day of school will be May 22nd.

Lesson Report

Spelling

The spelling and dictation test will be on Thursday.  Bonus words are optional.

Reading 

We are reading They Came From Centerfield, The Armadillo From Amarillo , and Visitors From Space.  We will be also be reviewing third grade standards.

Process Writing

We will be having fun writing science fiction—space stories.

Language Grammar

We will be reviewing third grade standards.

Science

We will be studying space and the solar system.

Health

We will be studying health and nutrition.

Reading Logs!

Students received a reading log today.  Please help your child become a successful reader by encouraging his/her reading.  The logs should be completed and returned on Mondays.

Required AR Reading

Students will need to read 9 books (1 pt. books only, chapter books)  and pass AR tests with at least 80% accuracy before

May 16.  See the Required AR Reading/ Reading Log paper for more information.

Monday— Study Spelling/Required Reading

Tuesday— Study Spelling/Required Reading

Wednesday—Study Spelling/Required  Reading

Thursday— Required Reading

 

The last week of school will have no homework and no reading log.  Enjoy the summer.  Please take advantage of summer school, the Shelby County Library reading program, and the science/math class. Watch for other learning opportunities. Learning is important—you can never stop.

Find good books to read, write stories and reports, and practice math!
