Shelbyville Central Schools Announces Full-Day Kindergarten
Beginning with the 2009-2010 School Year
Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, Shelbyville Central Schools will offer a full-day
kindergarten program. On April 14, 2009, the SCS School Board voted unanimously to provide a
tuition free full-day program to our community. The expansion of our kindergarten program will
provide a greater opportunity for social, physical, emotional, and cognitive development as
children begin their formal education.
What does this mean for my child entering full-day kindergarten in the 2009-10 school year?

If not already registered, children should be registered at their home school ofCoulston, Hendricks or Loper Elementary School.

First day of school for the 2009-10 school year is Wednesday, August 12th.·
Kindergarten entry assessments will be held on August 3rd and 4th in each of theelementary schools.

Full-day kindergarten will follow the same school day schedule as the elementaryschools:
8:15 AM Students May Enter the Building
8:25 AM Tardy Bell Rings – Class Begins
3:20 PM Bus Riders Dismissed
3:25 PM Walkers and Car Riders Dismissed

Bus transportation is available to and from school.·
SCS provides a breakfast and lunch program for all students who wish to participate;some students may qualify for breakfast and lunch assistance.

Daily student lunch cost is projected at $1.85; reduced lunch price at $.40.Daily breakfast cost at $1.10; reduced breakfast price at $.30.
Extra milk at $.50.
·
Parents must submit a completed Free/Reduced lunch application in order to qualify fortextbook assistance.
·
Textbook rental is projected at $52.85; however, families who are eligible to receiveFree/Reduced lunches under the National School Lunch Program also qualify for
textbook assistance, which will pay the textbook rental charges for eligible students.

Applications for Free/Reduced assistance may be picked up at your home school duringK-8 Registration on August 3
rd from 9-11 AM, 1 -3 PM, and 5:30-7:30 PM or on August 4thfrom 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

The full-day kindergarten program is tuition free, meaning no tuition payment is requiredto participate in the full-day program.
