Credit Lab
The Credit Lab serves the school in many different capacities. The program provides students who are behind in credits an opportunity to make-up courses. Additionally, the Credit Lab is giving SHS the opportunity to decrease the school's drop out rate. This program would also give alternative learners a different educational opportunity that has not been presently available.
SHS Student Achievement Center
The Shelbyville Student Achievement Center is a learning enivronment that is very different from the traditional high school setting. Students will learn at their own pace through Internet based courses, and will earn credit for participating in service learning projects and for having a job in the community. For students who struggle in the traditional high school setting, the Student Achievement Center may be the answer for achieving their high school diploma.
Academics:
Students will complete all courses through Novanet software, which gives them opportunity to work at their own pace. For example,
if a student finds a particular topic or subject difficult, he or she can spend as much time as needed to understand. Like wise, any student who already has a good understanding of a topic will not need to spend much time completing assignments. Likewise, students can earn credits by participating weekly in service learning projects. These will be activities in the community that students will participate in, rather than attending school on Fridays. Students can also earn credits through the work study program, in which students obtain and keep jobs, meeting the minimum hours of work per week.
School Days:
Students will be assigned to either the morning session (8:30 to 11:30) or the afternoon session (12:30 to 3:30). The alternative school location is the Indiana Wesleyan location in Shelbyville. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to and
from school, work, and and services learning projects. The fee for the Student Achievement Center is $77.
