Chapter 17 BASIC UNITS OF LIFE
Chapter Overview
Students will study the basic cell structures. They will also learn about mitosis, the process by which cells reproduce.
Theme Development
The themes that are supported by this chapter are scale and structure and energy. Cells are the basic unit of all living things. Cells may be similar in scale, but they can vary greatly in structure, especially if they have specific functions, such as communication or movement. All cells need energy for metabolic functions.
