2008 "DIVE INTO READING" & "DIVE INTO CHILI"
FESTIVITIES
Congratulations to the approximately 350 Shelbyville Central Schools students in
first through eighth grade who recently participated in back to school festivities celebrating their
commitment to meeting their summer reading goal. The "Dive Into
Reading" summer reading program is held in partnership with the Shelby
County Shelbyville Public Library. We are most appreciative of the
support that we received from the Library as they welcomed our students in
to their busy summer schedule through the months of June and July.
On Thursday, August 14th, first through fifth grade
students were rewarded with a three hour-pool party at the Meridian Park
family Aquatic Center while Middle School students shared in an afternoon of
fun at the Shelbyville Boys Club. On Friday, September 19th the
festivities continued as these students were recognized during the varsity
football game between the SHS Golden Bears and the Greenfield-Central
Pirates.
Congratulations to our sixth-ranked Golden Bears as they set
a school record of fourteen straight regular-season games won in a row!

Additional activities on the evening of the 19th,

The proceeds of the chili cook-off raised over $400, which was shared between
the SHS Athletic Booster and 90% Reading Goal initiative. Thank you to
our Chamber of Commerce for their continued support of the "Dive Into
