WHO SHOULD KISS A PIG?
|
|
On April 24, 2008, Denny Ramsey, SMS Principal, Michelle Herbert, SCS
Corporation Nurse, Cathy Reismiller, SCS Guidance Secretary, along with
Kyler Stephenson, Calem
Parrish, and Grant Ward,
SMS students with Type 1 Diabetes, attended a kick-off breakfast in
support of Mr. Ramsey as the "face of Shelbyville Central Schools"
for the 2008 Kiss A Pig campaign sponsored by Major
Hospital.

Kyler Stephenson, SMS 8th grade student, shared his
personal story of finding out in 2006 that he had Type I Diabetes.
Since that time, he has given himself over 3,160 shots and tested his blood
sugar nearly 5,000 times.
Kyler asked for help in finding a cure and stated,
"If they do not find the cure between now and when I'm 21 years old, I
will give myself 10,000 more shots."

VOTE for MR. RAMSEY to KISS A PIG!
|
|
Five local candidates are
vying to raise the most money for the local Kiss A Pig contest.
As a tribute to the pig - one of the first donors of insulin - Kiss
A Pig pits these candidates against each other in a contest
to raise "votes" ($1.00=1 vote). The one with the
most "votes" kisses a pig on stage at the Strawberry
Festival on June 13. |

This little piggy went to market, this little
piggy stayed home, but the littlest piggy wants Mr. Denny Ramsey,
Principal at Shelbyville Middle School, to pucker up and give
him a kiss! You can help make this happen! It's all in
the name of raising money and awareness for the American Diabetes
Association and the Kiss A Pig contest. Mr.
Ramsey has graciously volunteered or should we say, has been
"hog tied" into being the candidate for Shelbyville
Central Schools.
This is a community wide campaign and the
other candidates include: Todd Anderson, Shelbyville Fire Dept; Dr.
Ty Montgomery, Major Hospital; Mary Jo Phares, Shelby County
Recorder; and Carmen Darroca-Wertz, Girls Inc. Each
candidate's goal is to raise the most money and be the one to kiss a
real, live pig at the Strawberry Festival in June. We are developing
several ideas to implement in all SCS buildings and help Mr.
Ramsey raise the most money and be the one to kiss the pig. He
is very excited about this opportunity, has already purchased a new
tube of ChapStick, and is willing to do his part in
helping to raise money for a worthy cause.
Contact the Shelbyville Middle School office
at 392-2551 if you would like to make a donation. |

Kiss-A-Pig®
is one of the Association's unique fund-raising campaigns. To
"honor" the pig for aiding in discovering the
effectiveness of insulin for people with diabetes, participants
compete with each other to see who can raise the most money. The
participant who raises the most money, usually a CEO or business
executive, earns the honor of kissing the pig.
