Kindergarten Information

To apply for early entrance to kindergarten, print off the Early Entrance Kindergarten Application and return it to the Superintendent’s Office at 1121 E. State Rd. 44, Shelbyville.

Indiana statute I.C. 20-33-2-7 establishes a statewide entrance date for public school kindergarten. A student residing in Indiana must be at least five (5) by August 1st in order to enroll in public school kindergarten.

Shelbyville Central Schools will consider the following appeals to this rule:

  1. Students who turn five (5) by October 1st will be considered for the early entrance waiver.

  2. Early entrance students must be fully potty-trained.

  3. Students must meet the early entrance requirements.

Applications for early entrance kindergarten may be accessed from the Shelbyville Central Schools website or received from the Shelbyville Central Schools Central Office at 1121 E. State Rd. 44, between the hours of 7:30-4:00 p.m.

Completed applications for the early entrance waiver must be submitted to the Shelbyville Central Schools Central Office by July 1st. No late applications will be considered.

Potential kindergarten students will be screened by a Shelbyville Central Schools staff member. Parents will be contacted by phone to schedule an appointment after the application process is complete. Parents will be asked to bring the student to a testing location. The screening process will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once the screening is finished and scored, a committee will review the test data and make a recommendation. An acceptance or denial letter will be sent immediately after the committee’s decision.

Parents of early entrance kindergarten students must bring the acceptance letter in to enroll at the designated elementary school. Please do not utilize the online registration. The original birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency must be provided at registration. Contact the designated school for other registration information.
